Having been an on-and-off fan of the original Glossier You fragrance I thought it necessary to drag myself out of bed to go sniff Glossier You Doux and Glossier You Reve.

I bought my first – and only – bottle of Glossier You in the spring of 2023, and as someone who gets headaches from perfumes, this was one that triggered it if used too much. I tend to layer it, making it the skin scent before topping it with something sweeter to truly make a scent that feels like me.

So when I heard Glossier would be making two new scents to cater to different fragrance fans I wanted to see if either would appeal to me more than the original.

Glossier You Doux is described as “a soft and serene woody fragrance that opens with Sweet Violet, followed by a precious blend of woody Palo Santo, Frankincense and smoky Myrrh—heightened by a warm, musky base driven by Ambrox.”

Glossier You Reve is described as “a lush, dreamy gourmand fragrance that opens with rich Buttercream, followed by an addictive center of Plum Butter, Toasted Almond, Iris and creamy white Sandalwood—heightened by a warm, musky base driven by Ambrox.”

From these descriptions from Glossier, I was convinced that Reve would be my scent, but having gone to the shop and sniffed both enough to give me the headache of the century, I realised I was wrong, and probably know nothing about what anything smells like.

I would say I am a gourmand lover. My favourite fragrances are the ones that make me think of cakes and other sweet treats, and what’s more cakey than a buttercream frosting? So I had imagined Reve to have that sweeter scent, like come on, plum butter and toasted almonds? But it smelled more like the original to me, I couldn’t really pick up on those sweeter gourmand elements.

Whereas with Doux, felt sweeter to me, when they say a soft fragrance they meant it. It felt like a caress to my nostrils. I really enjoyed the scent and I did do a cheeky body spritz in the shop because I loved it. I’m not usually a fan of the woody scents but it didn’t feel as heavy as other scents described like it, in my opinion. It’s woody and has a spicy feel to it after it settles, which I think would layer beautifully with a vanilla scent, to make an autumnal spiced dessert vibe.

I did not buy either bottle, as they are £62 each (I bought my bottle of Glossier You for £50, so it would be £12 more) and I was not 100% sold on either scent.
