Founded in 1927 on the streets of New Delhi, chaiiwala® has nearly 100 years of history and tradition, and has now found its way to the land of roundabouts, Milton Keynes.

Menu

The franchised opened its 105th store in central Milton Keynes this summer and I made my way down to see if it was any good, having heard rave reviews from my friends who’ve visited other branches.

My order

I ordered the butter chicken roll and the chicken sausage roll. This may seem tame but I needed some quick bites the day I stopped by, and my spice tolerance has always been nonexistent.

The Chicken Sausage Roll

Cross section

Greggs has cemented the sausage roll’s place in British cuisine, so I was intrigued to try one with an Indian twist. The pastry was amazing, it was the right amount of flaky, and the slight curried flavour of the chicken filling made it a feast for the senses, even though it was two bites big. I’ll definitely be trying this again.

The Butter Chicken Roll

Butter Chicken Roll

As mentioned before my spice tolerance is through the floor, but I’ve had butter chicken before and it was not that spicy. However, I found this mini wrap quite the challenge. I did break a small sweat eating this, but the flavour really shone through once I got over the heat. It was delicious, and when talking to my friend Maheen, she thought it was a little funny I found it spicy because it was not.

My one regret is not grabbing a chaii when there, but I’ll definitely be visiting again and will make sure to grab a drink or two to try out.
